Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Review: Price and Availability
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 starts at $1,599.99 and can go as high as $2,499 for the highest configuration. Considering its competition, it's not the best cheap gaming laptop out there. However, you get an advanced CPU and GPU, not to mention generous storage.
When it comes to availability, things start to become tricky, probably due to the supply chain shortages being experienced worldwide. However, you can check on the Asus official website or major online retail stores like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Review: Design and Display
The Asus G14 maintains the slim build that’s become synonymous with this model. It's thin and light for a gaming rig, weighing less than two kgs, making it lighter than most mainstream laptops.
The magnesium-alloy lid is filled with an amazing array of LED lights (what Asus calls AniMe Matrix) that display custom animations. On the bottom left half, a purple Republic of Gamers badge gives the laptop an excellent industrial aesthetic.
The white chassis makes it look clean and sleek, and beautiful to look at too. It's not as bulky as conventional gaming laptops but still manages to pack a powerful performance. On the hinge, you can see some indicator lights surrounded by a Zephyrus logo.
The touchpad is quite massive, and the keyboard has five dedicated keys above it, including a volume down, up, mute, ROG button (that launches the Armoury Crate app), and power button. On either side are two speaker vents that give out a nice sound.
The Asus G14 2022 model now features a 16:10 display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. The panel is rated at 500 nits, 120Hz, and 100 percent DCI-P3 color space.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Review: Performance and Battery Life
With the inclusion of the brand-new AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS CPU with 32GB of RAM, eight cores and 16 threads, and a processor speed of 3.3GHz, the G14 is a beast when it comes to performance. It handles all games with surprising vigor, even with YouTube and more than 40 pages of Google running simultaneously.
The Geekbench 5.4 benchmark came in at 10,004, which surpasses most gaming monsters like Alienware m15 Ryzen R7 (7,288) and Nitro 5’s Ryzen 9 5900HX (8,485). The included 1TB SSD has a transfer rate of 1,260 megabytes per second, again toppling Nitro 5’s 1TB SSD (742 MBps) and Alienware m15’s 512GB SSD (874MBps).
When it comes to battery life, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 doesn't disappoint. It gives up to 10 hours of continuous usage, beating most of its competitors.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Review: Webcam
The addition of the webcam on the Asus G14 didn’t come as a surprise considering customers have been requesting one for a while now. The 720p camera, however, isn’t that pleasant.
The colors are a bit off, and the details look somewhat better, but not by much. The contrast is also poor, and you may be better off going for one of the best external webcams. One good thing with the webcam is that it features IR sensors that allow you to log in to your PC using Windows Hello.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop isn’t a bad choice for gamers. However, many might be put off by the several flaws, including heat build-up when gaming. That said, it's one of the best-looking gaming laptops of 2022, and it offers a decent battery life.
The machine now features a webcam which was sorely lacking and the performance is impressive. There’s no denying that the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a powerful machine. But you can find better alternatives out there.
